Graduate Assistantships
In addition to fellowships, scholarships, and loans, there are two
types of assistance available to support graduate education in exchange
for services provided:
Teaching Assistantships are available on a competitive basis
within the School of Agriculture and Land Resources Management. Incumbents
assume responsibility for laboratory sections, grading, and other duties
associated with undergraduate courses within the Natural Resources program.
Research Assistantships are available on a competitive basis
for work on specific, externally funded research projects. I currently
have two available:
-
Disturbance impacts on soil respiration, nutrient cycling, and trace
gas exchange in boreal forests (part of the Bonanza
Creek Long-Term Experimantal Research program): I need a Ph.D.
or M.S. student to help measure rates of biogeochemical processes following
disturbances typical of the boreal forest (especially comparative effects
of fire and logging).
-
Direct and indirect effects of fire on decomposition and soil respiration
in a boreal forest watershed underlain by permafrost (part of the Frostfire
study, advised jointly with Dr.
Rich Boone): We need a Ph.D. or M.S. student to help measure
direct and indirect effects of fire on below-ground processes, especially
soil respiration and decomposition.
