Introduction
TZM pressure vessels are typically used for phase equilibria and decompression experiments requiring higher temperatures than reached by the Rene-style, Waspalloy or Hastalloy Ni-Cr alloy vessels. TZM vessels are usually paired with a high powered furnace capable of reaching temperatures in excess of 1500 C, such as the Deltech DT31 VTOS (http://www.deltechfurnaces.com). The basic design is based on using inert argon gas as both pressurizing medium, as well as an external shield against oxidation. The basic apparatus is shown below in two photographs from the UAF laboratory.
