A Letter to My Grown-Up Children
Sunday September 3, 2000

Dear Christina, Deborah, and Steven:

I had a wonderful visit with Deborah. I told her about what happened up to that point in my new life as a born again Christian. Each day is a learning experience for me. I have my struggles, but they all are blessings to me because they are living lessons God is giving me.

Looking back over your growing up years, I have many regrets. Most regretful of all was my absence as a Christian father. I was a heathen father who did not know God and therefore knew not what love is. I now know that the only true love is God's love, unconditional love for us. This is how God wants us to love others.

Now, God is blessing me with a wake-up call each morning to think about what I should do for the day. What a blessing has that been! Next time when I visit you in person, I will bring you a Bible and a copy of my latest version of my personal perspective in "Purpose in Life". I did that when I visited Deborah about two weeks ago.

Christian life is fully of joy and hope by keeping our eyes on Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. With faith and trust in God, we can do the right things right. Without faith and trust, we can do nothing.

Let me share with you the prayer of confession in the bulletin for our church worship service this morning:

Holy God, loving Savior, we forget, even deny, who we are called to be. You called us to be lovers of creations and haters of wounds, but we doubt your power flowing through us. We are called to forgive wrongs and to offer blessings, but we hold on to hurt and hold back the words of praise. We are called on to share our faith and live our beliefs, but we hesitate, afraid to appear "too religious."  Dear God, fill us with hope and confidence and give us the courage to share what is truly Good News, that God is love, that Christ is Lord. Amen

In God's love and blessing, ........ Dad
