Camp Qungaayux^ culture camp 2004

Every summer, the Qaalugin Tribe has a culture camp called Camp Qungaayux^. The purpose of this camp is to pass on cultural values to the next generation. I was asked to teach a survival class and aid in an intertidal ecology class. For the survival class, students were taken through the seven steps to survival:

  1. Recognition
  2. Inventory
  3. Shelter
  4. Signal
  5. Water
  6. Food
  7. Play

Activities were planned for each of the seven steps and students were asked to build shelters and signals. For the intertidal ecology class, students were led through a rocky intertidal area and identified which organisms were where and why.
