Vernon is the supervisory biologist at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge.

Vernon talked about the successes, discoveries and challenges of the 2004 field season in the Aleutians and Pribilofs.

He also talked about the search for new species, how seabirds can reveal secrets of the sea, first efforts to return ptarmigan to their former island homes, and the escalating war against rats.
