Title: Giant squid in Alaska

When: Thrusday 14 April 2005

Who: Reid Brewer (MAP) and Karla Bush (ADF&G)

Reid and Karla combined efforts to put together a talk and a necropsy of a 8.5foot Pacific hooked squid (Moroteuthis robusta) that washed ashore on Monday 4 April 2005.

Reid gave a talk on squid mythology and history and then talked about the species of giant squid in the world and then specifically in Alaska.

The Grand Aleutian Hotel was kind enough to donate calamari for the attendees after the talk.

Finally Karla took the group outside for a full discription and dissection of external and internal anatomy.
