Killer whale biopsy sampling and photo identification in the Easter Aleutian Islands
Research project description:
Worked with crew aboard the Webslinger to perform annual research for the North Gulf Oceanic Society researcher Craig Matkin doing orca research. Killer whales were photographed of individual analysis of white saddle patches. When possible, biopsy samples were taken with a crossbow and puncture dart.
Role in research :
Eight days of spotting, photographing, and taking dart biopsy samples of orcas. Aided in shipboard techniques, photography and data recording of Killer whales around the Eastern Aleutian Islands.
