The
Health Care Reimbursement Program
The College of Rural and Community Development (CRCD) is committed to creating an equal educational opportunity for all Alaskans, particularly Alaska Natives and rural residents. At CRCD, we believe that culture and tradition are integral parts of the learning process.
CRCD serves a geographic area spanning nearly two-thirds of the state and representing more than 160 primarily Native Alaskan communities. The College is also the center for support and development of distance-delivered education opportunities within all university programs of study. The main office is located in the Brooks Building on the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) campus.
CRCD Health Programs target village-based health care industry workers through rural delivery of various classes and programs of study. By partnering with tribal health systems and regional CRCD campuses, the department offers intensive and individualized courses in both online and traditional classroom formats.
CRCD designs programs and courses with rural students in mind. The needs of permanent residents and students in non-traditional settings who seek skills and education suited to the rural economy steer the development process. The College offers a wide range of academic and programmatic options that respond to the changing conditions of rural Alaskan communities. The CRCD Health Care Reimbursement Certificate Program offers students the opportunity to earn dual industry-specific certification: The Health Care Reimbursement Certificate is awarded by UAF upon completion of the 30 credit Health Care Reimbursement Program, and the Certified Professional Coder credential is awarded by the American Academy of Professional Coders upon passing the national CPC exam.
