The wave laboratory (WPL), headed by Dr Vikas Sonwalkar, works on several research problems in space physics, wireless communication, remote sensing, fisheries acoustics, digital signal processing, and electronics.

Specific research areas of interest include:

• High latitude wave propagation phenomena (auroral hiss)

• Thunderstorm coupling to the magnetosphere

•  Magnetospheric wave-particle interactions,

• Acoustic wave propagation with applications to fisheries

• Ultra-wideband wave propagation and communication system development

• Application of new digital signal processing techniques for scientific data analysis.
